Adapting to the Changing Traffic Flow: Navigating the Downtown Dig and Bridge Closures

The charm of paddling through Paris has always been the scenic views of our heritage core from the water. As many of you have likely seen in recent updates from the County of Brant, that core is currently undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades. With the “Downtown Dig” in full swing and anticipated closures affecting the William Street bridge, navigating through town by car is becoming a bit more of a trek than usual.

At Grand Experiences, our priority is ensuring your time on the Grand or Nith River is spent enjoying the current, not sitting in traffic. To keep your adventure as smooth as possible, we are closely monitoring the seasonal congestion and the ongoing construction schedules.

What This Means for Your Trip

To ensure every paddler gets on the water on time, we may implement the following adjustments:

  • Modified Launch Times: We may shift certain departure windows to avoid peak traffic periods in the downtown core.
  • Flexible Scheduling: If congestion levels impact our shuttle turnarounds, we will adjust schedules in real-time to minimize wait times.
  • Alternative Routes: We encourage all guests traveling from the north or south to utilize the Paris West Bypass (connecting Keg Lane and Brant Oxford Road to Bishopsgate Road). This route helps you avoid the Grand River Street North construction entirely.

How You Can Help

  • Aim for Early Arrival: Please try to arrive at least 15–20 minutes ahead of your scheduled check-in. This gives you a buffer for any unexpected detours through town.
  • Check Your Email: If we need to move a launch time due to specific bridge work or heavy congestion, we will reach out to you directly via the contact information provided with your booking.
  • Follow Regional Detours: Keep an eye on local signage for the “Downtown Dig” and use the newly completed roundabouts and bypass routes to save time.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as our community grows and improves. The water remains as beautiful as ever, and once you’re in your canoe, kayak, or tube, the sounds of the road will be miles away.

See you on the river.
