September on the Grand: Corporate Fleets, Big Boat Summits, and an Epic Weekend with Adam Shoalts
September is often thought of as the month things wind down. In outfitting, it is usually when summer crowds thin out, launch ramps quiet down, and operators start looking toward winterization.
This September on the Grand River has been anything but quiet.
Between stable river flows, crisp morning air, and early splashes of autumn colour across the Carolinian bluffs, this month has pushed our operational rhythm into high gear. Far from coasting toward October, we have been managing full-scale fleet mobilizations across the entire corridor.

Welcoming Back Old Friends & Launching Global Teams
Mid-week operations have been anchored by some incredible group events:
- Returning Partners in Canoes and Kayaks: We were thrilled to welcome back a dedicated environmental corporate group for their second consecutive season on the water. Rather than big craft, their team tackled the river in tandem canoes and agile kayaks, getting up close with the watershed they care so deeply about. Having repeat partners return year after year is the ultimate validation that our focus on quality gear and seamless logistics is hitting the mark.
- International Summit on the Water: While we recently listed our 12-passenger Voyageur canoes for sale with Organic Boat Shop, those big craft are showing their absolute worth this month. We deployed the Voyageurs for an international team visiting Waterloo for a global summit. There is no better way to break down cultural barriers and foster real camaraderie than putting a multinational team in a traditional Canadian big canoe, finding a unified stroke cadence on the Grand.
- London Waldorf School Expedition: Our big boats are also carrying the students and educators from the London Waldorf School. Outfitting a youth expedition requires dialed-in safety protocols, precision timing, and patience. Seeing young paddlers work together to navigate moving water as a single unit is hands-down one of the most rewarding parts of this work.

The Main Event: Adam Shoalts on the River This Weekend
We are capping off this massive month with our headline event of the season.
This Saturday and Sunday, Canadian explorer, bestselling author, and Royal Canadian Geographical Society Explorer-in-Residence Adam Shoalts is joining us on the Grand for an intensive weekend on the water.
Adam will be leading four guided paddle trips across two days, sharing his firsthand insights on navigation, river geography, wildlife, and Canadian wilderness history as we move through the heart of the Grand River valley.
To wrap up each day on the water, we are heading into town for an evening gathering at The Arlington in Paris. Adam will be hosting a pub talk, Q&A, and book signing on both Saturday and Sunday night, giving guests a chance to sit down, share stories from northern expeditions, and connect over great food and drink. Executing four distinct guided runs and two evening pub talks over a single weekend is a major operational undertaking, and our crew is completely dialed in to deliver an exceptional experience.
Heading into October: Call to Book
September has set a high bar, but prime paddling season is far from over. The peak of the Carolinian fall canopy is just arriving, the water is crystal clear, and the quiet beauty of an autumn drift is unmatched.
As our seasonal college and university staff wrap up and head back to classes, all October trips will shift to call-to-book only. Moving to direct phone bookings allows us to manage our late-season staging carefully, monitor changing autumn weather and water temperatures, and ensure every single group receives dedicated, premium outfitting.
If you want to catch the fall colours from the water before the frost sets in, give us a call to lock in your October run. Bundle up in proper layers, grab a thermos, and come see the Grand River at its finest.
