Rebuilding from the River Up: What It Takes to Earn Your Trust
When I took over Grand Experiences in May of 2025, I knew the journey ahead would not be a gentle float down calm water.
The company had a long history as a cornerstone for outdoor adventure in Southern Ontario, but its reputation had hit rough water. Our Google and TripAdvisor ratings were lingering around a painful 3.5 stars, and reading through old reviews felt like reading a catalogue of worst-case scenarios. Boats and PFDs in poor condition, communication breakdowns, confused logistics—people were arriving excited for a great day outdoors and leaving frustrated.
I bought this business because I genuinely believe in the power of getting people out on the water. Seeing that disconnect broke my heart, and I committed to doing whatever it took to rebuild this outfitter from the ground up.
Coming from a background leading complex engineering programs, managing multi-vendor operations, and obsessing over user experience, I treated this turnaround with the same discipline. In tech, taking an underperforming mobile app from 3 stars to over 4 stars requires stripping away friction, fixing broken systems, and putting the user at the exact centre of every decision.

Running premier canoeing and kayaking operations on the Grand River turned out to be no different.
We overhauled our dispatch logistics, upgraded maintenance across our entire fleet, streamlined shuttle timing, and trained our team around a simple standard: treat every guest’s day off as if it were our own. Whether guests are launching from Kitchener at Bingemans to paddle through Waterloo Region, or setting out from our hub in Paris, Ontario to explore scenic Carolinian bluffs, we wanted the experience to be seamless.
Turning a business around from the ashes is grueling, relentless work for an independent operator, but the effort has been worth every early morning and late night. Today, our rating has climbed to 4.2 stars, and every positive step forward reflects real trust earned one launch, one shuttle, and one guest at a time. We are far from finished, and we work every single day to raise that bar higher.
When you finish a trip and our crew asks, “If you had a great time today, please leave us a review on Google,” it is not a corporate script. For an independent outdoor company serving Paris, Kitchener, and the Grand River corridor, genuine customer reviews are the lifeblood that literally puts us on the map and helps new paddlers find us.
If you have paddled with us—whether you joined us for a peaceful morning run, brought your family out for a weekend float, or tackled a full-day expedition—your feedback matters deeply.
Thank you for trusting us with your time on the water and for being part of this journey.
