Old friends paddle for an annual reunion

The Power of Annual Traditions: Reconnecting on the Grand River

There is nothing quite like the energy of lifelong friends reuniting. As the years go by, schedules get packed, careers take off, and families grow. It becomes entirely too easy to let time slip by without seeing the people who know you best. That is why protecting time for annual traditions is so vital.

Recently, we had the privilege of hosting an incredible group here at Grand Experiences. These are friends who grew up in the exact same neighborhood and have made it an uncompromising priority to reconnect every single year. They refuse to let the busyness of life break their bond.

A Weekend Down to a Science

This group has perfected the art of the annual get-together. Their itinerary is a masterclass in keeping things simple, local, and incredibly fun. Here is how they structure their reunion:

  • Basecamp at Brant Park: They kick off the weekend by setting up camp at Brant Park, securing a home base where they can sit around the fire and catch up.
  • The Shuttle & Lunch: We pick them up directly from their campsite and bring them into town for a hearty lunch at Cobblestone, enjoying great food right in the heart of Paris.
  • Out the Back Door to the River: The transition from lunch to the river is seamless. After eating, they simply walk out the back door of Cobblestone straight to the water. We have their gear waiting, get everyone briefed, and launch them directly onto the river.
  • A Three-Hour Paddle: The main event is a three-hour journey down the Grand River, navigating the currents and taking in the scenery.

Why the River is the Perfect Reunion Venue

Getting out on the water is one of the best ways to pick up exactly where you left off. When you are sharing a canoe, paddling a kayak, or floating in a river tube alongside an old friend, the distractions of daily life disappear. There are no screens, no urgent emails, and no rushing to the next appointment.

The rhythm of the river forces you to slow down. It provides the perfect backdrop for reliving old memories, sharing a few laughs, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Grand River valley.
