Learning to Paddle

Build your paddling skills with a full-day experience that combines expert instruction and a guided canoe or kayak trip on the Grand River. Start with morning lessons on calm water, then put your new techniques into practice during an afternoon river excursion with your instructor.

Description

Whether you’re brand new to paddling or looking to build confidence on the water, Learning to Paddle is the perfect way to start. This full-day adventure combines hands-on instruction with a guided river trip, giving you the skills and experience to paddle with ease and enjoyment.

Morning: Instruction & Skill Building

Begin your day on calm water with one of our certified Paddle Canada Instructors. You’ll learn foundational paddling techniques—like draw strokes, J-strokes, and how to steer and control your canoe or kayak—as well as how to read the river and respond to different conditions.

Afternoon: Guided River Trip

In the afternoon, put your new skills into action on a beautiful stretch of the Grand River. Your instructor will guide you downriver, offering tips and support along the way. It’s the ideal learning environment—safe, supportive, and scenic.
