Your pace. Your adventure. Our Gear. This is the classic Grand River trip. The banks are high, the trees are ancient, and the river feels like a true escape from the city. On this self-guided trip, you are the captain. We handle the shuttle and the gear; you handle the paddling.
Your Journey Down the Classic
Into the Wild We shuttle you upstream to the launch at Glen Morris. From the moment your boat hits the water, you enter a lush valley known as the Carolinian Forest. This section of the river is famous for its “swifts”—gentle rapids that add a splash of excitement without being dangerous.
Nature’s Playground Keep your eyes peeled (and your camera ready). This valley is a wildlife corridor, home to Great Blue Herons, Ospreys, Bald Eagles, and beavers. The water here is fed by cold freshwater springs, keeping it clear and refreshing on hot summer days.
A Historic Finish As you near the end of your 11km journey, the river widens. You’ll drift past scenic islands and under historic railway bridges before landing right behind our shop in downtown Paris.
The Glen Morris Plan
Park at the finish. We shuttle you to the start.
- Park in Paris: Leave your car at the Syl Apps Community Centre (free parking) and the shuttle will meet you there.
- Shuttle Upstream: Hop in our van for a quick ride to the launch point in Glen Morris.
- Launch & Paddle: We provide the boat and gear. You launch into the current and paddle back toward Paris.
- Land at Penman’s Dam: The trip ends at Penman’s Dam Park. No waiting for a return shuttle—you are done!

Need to Know
- Meeting Location: Grand Experiences Shop (109 Grand River St N, Paris, ON).
- Parking: Syl Apps Community Centre (51 William St).
- Distance: 11km (approx. 3 hours).
- Portage: There is a short carry (150ft) from the river up to the shop at the end of the trip.
What to Bring
- The Essentials: Reusable water bottle, snacks/lunch, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses (with a strap!).
- Footwear: Water shoes or sandals with straps. You will get your feet wet getting in and out.
- Clothing: Synthetic, quick-drying clothes. Avoid cotton/jeans.
- For the Car: A dry change of clothes for after the trip.
