Lake Canoe Skills – Tandem Introduction

6-Hour Instructional Course | Saturdays/Sundays All Season

This one-day introductory course is designed for novice paddlers learning to canoe with a partner in calm, sheltered waters. Taught by certified Paddle Canada instructors, the course emphasizes teamwork, safety, and foundational paddling techniques that build confidence and competence on flatwater.

Participants will practice strokes, maneuvering, and communication as they paddle in tandem. Rescue skills are a key component, including both self-rescue and assisted techniques, preparing paddlers for unexpected situations in a safe, supportive environment.

By the end of the course, you’ll gain the skills and knowledge needed to paddle effectively and responsibly on flatwater lakes, and understand your personal limitations as you progress in the sport. Ideal for new paddlers or those looking to refresh their tandem canoeing skills.

Course Includes:

• 6 hours of on-water instruction
• Certified Paddle Canada Instructor
• All necessary canoeing equipment (canoe, paddle, PFD)
• Focused training in tandem technique, flatwater safety, and rescue fundamentals

Recommended Prerequisite: Canoeing Basic Skills Certification
