Explore the wild, remote and mysterious passageways of Big Creek, Canada's southernmost canoe route. Paddling Big Creek feels like paddling the Amazon with its deep slow moving water flowing under a canopy of tress, and vegetation thick enough to resemble a rain forest. Big Creek is a narrow, winding, and remote river with an overhanging canopy of willows, sycamore and other Carolinian trees towering from the depths of the waters, giving this special place an exotic mangrove aura. The lower portion of Big Creek passes through the Big Creek National Wildlife area. This is a marsh wildlife sanctuary, housing many rare species of fauna and wildlife, especially birds such as sandhill cranes, and bald eagles.
